National Adventure and Leadership School (NALS) has launched a unique mountaineering program for over weight persons. This 21 day program in Himachal Pradesh will focus on healthy lifestyle and long-term weight loss. The participants will improve their cardio vascular fitness, self-esteem confidence and cultivate healthy habits at altitudes of up to 8000 feet.
There are no crash diets or medicines, just simple nutritious vegetarian food. Participants will also enjoy trekking, camping, rock climbing and crossing rivers.
Registered participants will receive a free 6-month preparatory training schedule from NALS. NALS will also follow-up the progress of the participant for a year after completion of the program. Cost of this program ex-Delhi is Rs.49,000/- inclusive of taxes.

The results of the bye elections held for 5 constituencies have been declared. As expected, all the seats have been won by the DMK & Congress alliance.
The boycott of the elections by AIADMK has had no effect on the voter turnout. In fact, this boycott ensured the winning of all the seats by the DMK alliance besides helping the fledgling DMDK.
Particularly of interest is the result of the Thondamuthur assembly result. The Congress has won this seat after 47 years. The importance of this win can be gauged from the hard work that had gone into the campaign. Mr.Kandasamy, the Congress candidate, has been indeed lucky to have Union Ministers, P.Chidambaram, A.Raja and G.K.Vasan, Deputy Chief Minister M.K.Stalin and Rajya Sabha MP Kanimozhi campaigning for him. All this efforts resulted in a victory of 71,487 votes.
Another interesting factor is that, BJP has been pushed to the 5th place here. BJP has fared worse than the regional caste based party - Kongu Munnetra Kazhagam - polling just 9045 votes.
Perhaps, its time, AIADMK started to think over its strategy and take some positive decisions.

Writer Sujatha has passed away. The news was a shock to me, because for me he was immortal. But then, nature plays its part waiting for no tide or turn. Being an ardent fan of Sujatha from the school days, its with great difficulty that I accepted that he is no more and only his writings will live on.
Sujatha for me was more than a genius. He has been writing on almost all topics - be it fiction or non fiction. He was one of the pioneers in the field of computers and internet and his writings to a large extent made it easier for the laymen to understand them. Apart from writing about computers and other fiction, he was also instrumental in popularising the "Pudukavidhai" - and Haiku. Not only that, he was also an authority on literary and Tamil Hindu cutlture. He has written extensively on them and often quotes from "Periypuranam, Devaram, Tiruvasagam, Upanishads" etc.
Characters from his stories - Ganesh, Vasanth, Madhumitha, Geno - have all been immortalised in the hearts of Tamil speaking people. In fact lots of people name their daughters "Madhumitha" inspired by the character. And one wishes that one is as brilliant, sharp witted with a whacky sense of humor like his famous lawyer characters - Ganesh and his junior Vasanth.
Sujatha brought a sea change in the Tamil literary world with his style of writing. Some may not accept it, but the fact is he induced more people to read books with his style of writing. In fact, Mr.Balakumaran, another writer with a huge following in Tamilnadu, has said that it was Sujatha's advice and guiding that helped him in such a mesmerising way.
What I have written here may sound banal to some. But its from my heart and I pray to the almighty to help the grieving family.
It seems people all around me are familiar with it and doing it with ease. But for me, try however hard I would, it just doesn't seem to work. I go by the book and as per expert (?) advice, but something seem to be missing or going wrong.
You people must be wondering "what the hell is this guy trying to say?" Yes, I have been trying to put up a blog in my mother tongue - Tamil - but alas, nothing seems to work. I have tried every download, cut and paste of html tags, etc, but I don't know what I am missing.
The thing is I am able to read the blogs, but unable to put up a blog myself. And for most of my computer geek friends blogging sounds like greek and roman.So, no local help is available. The problem is not only with Blogger (and to add to my cup of woes, I changed to the new blogger which doesn't allow all the gimmicks you could do with the old blogger), but also with Wordpress.
But I am determined to get a blog in Tamil. Perhaps someone or something will make it a grand success.
I am working for this marketing company as an accountant. We have branches all over the country and each branch has its own sales team. But as fate would have it, my branch is a two man show - my manager and me.
The guy who is the manager has a set monthly target. He does not go out on field marketing and hardly calls anyone personally. He just places ads in the newspapers and waits for people to walk in with bags of money. By god's grace, he has been achieving the targets every month. With no other salesman, the manager has to achieve the target by himself. He does not want to appoint someone as salesman because, he's afraid that the salesman may do more business than him, thereby robbing him of the incentives. Ok, that's his own problem.
But the trouble is, he starts nagging me by the third week of the month, to close some sales. He just seems to be not able to get into that thick skull of his head that one can only talk to the potential customers and not bludgeon them into buying. I am right now in the office - today is sunday - waiting for somebody to walk in and buy. He keeps calling me on the phone every half an hour and wants to know the sales figure. Some times I feel like just walking out of the office, but with a kid to take care and the horror of looking for a new job, I just swallow my pride and to try to keep cool. I am writing this just to get it off my chest.

Of late I have been trying to earn online, like everybody is trying to do. I can't say that I have been successful, but I have signed up with some sites which are free to sign up. I just pass on the links which ask for money. Every one is asking for $49.95 or Rs.200 - 500 (Indian Currency) before they will let us know of their success money making ways on the Internet. But I don't want to spend money to buy books which tell "how to market", "how to get rich quickly", or any such topics which are a dime a dozen, or on a list of websites which may or may not exist!!!
So, as a rule, I don't sign up to any site that asks for money. Another rule I have decided to follow strictly is that - if I find anything irresistible, I would first check up whether its BBB (Better Business Bureau) approved before I pay up. But so far, having surfed through a number of sites (I have lost count) I have come across only one site which is BBB approved and that is SFI. This is also a free to sign site which offers a lot of merchandise to sell online. You also get to earn by referring people to it.
